In Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist", the story follows an orphan, Oliver, who escapes a harsh workhouse and finds himself drawn into the criminal underworld of London. He encounters Fagin and his gang of juvenile pickpockets, where he learns about the dark side of society and eventually finds a friend in the kind-hearted Mr. Brownlow. The novel exposes the injustices faced by the poor and child labour in Victorian England, highlighting the themes of poverty, crime, and the search for redemption.
Drawing examples from sport, science and even business, Dare to Be You empowers young readers to follow their own path, love what makes them different and question the world around them.
He doesn't look like them. But they cannot send him back to the sea where he will surely perish. Instead, they put him aside but even that doesn't solve their problem. The Island is a powerful picture book about refugees, xenophobia, multiculturalism, social politics and human rights.
