SEND Teaching Assistant - Enhanced Provision

Are you resilient, calm under pressure and motivated by making a genuine difference to children with complex needs?

We are seeking a committed and highly capable SEND Teaching Assistant to join our Enhanced / Alternative Provision, working with a small group of pupils who present with significant additional needs.

This is not a typical classroom-based role. Our pupils may have Autism, communication and interaction needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Some children display highly challenging behaviours linked to their needs. The successful candidate must be confident, adaptable and able to respond positively and professionally in demanding situations.

This role requires patience, emotional resilience and the ability to maintain clear boundaries while building strong, nurturing relationships.

About Us

Coopers Edge School is a warm, inclusive and ambitious school community where both pupils and staff are supported to achieve their very best.

We are proud to offer a calm, organised and well-resourced learning environment, supported by a highly experienced SEND team and dedicated pastoral staff. Our provision is further strengthened by our own Speech and Language Teaching Partner, ensuring specialist support is embedded within the school. We benefit from strong collaboration and professional development through the Gloucester Schools Partnership, alongside excellent in-house training and leadership development opportunities for all staff.

Ofsted (October 2023): GOOD

Staff Wellbeing & Benefits

We value our staff and actively support their wellbeing through:

  • A wellbeing package including medical support, advice and a 24/7 helpline
  • Opportunities for free lunches and flu vaccinations
  • Parents’ meetings held during the school day
  • A robust appraisal system supporting career progression
  • A commitment to reducing unnecessary paperwork
  • Regular opportunities to socialise as a team

The Role

You will work within our Enhanced Provision, supporting pupils with complex SEND who need consistency, understanding and genuine care to thrive. Many of the children you will support are autistic and have communication and interaction needs, alongside Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

Your role will be to build strong, trusting relationships that help children feel safe, valued and understood. You will support pupils to regulate their emotions, develop positive behaviour strategies and experience success in their learning each day. This will require you to adapt quickly, remain calm during challenging moments and approach every situation with empathy and professionalism.

You will work closely with teachers, the SEND team and families, ensuring that each child receives consistent, nurturing support while maintaining high expectations for both learning and behaviour.

No two days are ever the same. Flexibility, initiative and a sense of humour are essential — but above all, the needs of the pupils will always come first.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Is:

  • Genuinely caring and committed to nurturing every child as an individual
  • Patient, calm and emotionally resilient, even when situations feel challenging
  • Consistent and reliable, providing the secure base our pupils need
  • Confident making thoughtful decisions in the moment
  • Skilled at building warm, professional relationships with pupils, staff and families
  • Flexible, reflective and able to prioritise effectively
  • Experienced in supporting children with SEND and complex behaviours

This role is suited to someone who understands that working in alternative provision can be demanding — but who also knows that helping a child feel safe, understood and successful is one of the most rewarding parts of education.

SEND Teaching Assistant - Classroom Intervention Focus – KS1 or KS2

Are you a skilled and resilient practitioner with a passion for delivering targeted interventions that genuinely enhance pupil learning?

We are seeking a committed and highly capable SEND Teaching Assistant (Level 3 qualified or equivalent) to work across Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, delivering structured classroom interventions to support pupils with a range of additional needs.

This role is focused on improving outcomes through carefully planned, evidence-informed intervention work. You will support children with ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, cognition and learning difficulties, and physical and sensory needs. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop attention and focus, independence and confidence within the classroom environment or through breakout sessions.

About Us

Coopers Edge School is a warm, inclusive and ambitious school community where both pupils and staff are supported to achieve their very best.

We are proud to offer a calm, organised and well-resourced learning environment, supported by a highly experienced SEND team and dedicated pastoral staff. We value our staff and actively support their wellbeing through:

  • Opportunities for free lunches and flu vaccinations
  • Parents’ meetings held during the school day
  • Subject leader release time
  • A robust appraisal system supporting career progression
  • A commitment to reducing unnecessary paperwork
  • Regular opportunities to socialise as a team

The Role

You will work closely with class teachers and the SEND team to deliver and adapt targeted interventions that enhance pupil progress and remove barriers to learning. Your support will include working with pupils with ADHD and attention and focus difficulties, delivering interventions across the six areas of learning, and supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, particularly in developing emotional regulation skills. You will lead phonics interventions and reading development, provide writing scaffolding and structured literacy support, and help develop handwriting fluency. The role also involves implementing cognition and learning strategies, supporting physical and sensory regulation needs, and incorporating structured movement or “fizzy” activities to promote focus and engagement.

This is a proactive, hands-on role requiring strong subject knowledge, initiative and the ability to adapt strategies to meet individual needs. You must be confident in tracking progress, providing clear feedback to teachers and adjusting provision to maximise impact. A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is essential, and experience delivering structured interventions and supporting pupils with SEND in a primary setting is highly desirable.

  • Confident supporting pupils with ADHD and SEMH needs
  • Able to build positive, professional relationships with pupils, staff and families
  • Organised and proactive, with strong initiative
  • Committed to maintaining high expectations alongside a nurturing approach

This role would suit someone who understands that effective intervention work requires consistency, adaptability and a firm belief that every child can succeed.
